A 40-foot container gives you a 320-square-foot footprint of weather-tight space, double the floor of a 20′ in a single delivery. It is the size to reach for when you are storing equipment by the pallet, running a jobsite office with room for the whole crew, or building a cabin or bunkhouse that needs space for a bathroom and a kitchenette.
Buy a new one-trip container for the cleanest possible shell, or a used wind-and-watertight unit when the job just needs a dry, secure box. Standard or high-cube, doors on one end or a fully opening side, the 40′ shell is also the starting point for our largest builds: mobile offices, scale houses, climate-controlled storage, bunkhouses, workforce dorms, and cabins.
Enter your ZIP code on any product to see delivered pricing. Most in-stock units leave the yard within days.

A standard 40′ container is 8′6″ tall outside; a high-cube stands 9′6″. That extra foot matters if you plan to insulate, hang lighting, run ductwork, or stack inventory on tall shelving, which is why our 40′ offices are built on high-cube shells.
One-trip containers have made a single ocean crossing and arrive with clean walls and tight seals. Used 40′ units are wind- and water-tight but show their mileage. Both are inspected before they leave our yard.
Standard doors on one end, doors on both ends, or side access (4-door or full side open) when you need to load with a forklift along the length of the box. Roll-up doors are available on storage builds.
Mobile offices (with a bathroom, a storage room, or both), scale houses, climate-controlled storage, firework stands, retreat and hunting cabins, bunkhouses, and workforce dorms all start as a 40′ shell. If you do not see the configuration you need, ask. We build to order.
A 40′ unit is a bigger investment, so buy it from the people who build them. We manufacture and modify containers in our own Texas facilities, so the unit you order is inspected, modified, and quality-checked by the same team. Delivery is nationwide, pricing is by ZIP code with no hidden freight surprises, and every unit is backed by an industry-leading warranty. Financing is available on most builds.
A 40 ft container delivers the most space per delivery of any standard box: roughly 300 sq ft of interior floor under one roof, on one truck. It is the shell behind most of our larger builds and the natural choice when a 20′ leaves you stacking pallets two deep.
| Exterior dimensions | 40′ L × 8′ W × 8′6″ H (high-cube: 9′6″ H) |
| Interior dimensions (approx.) | 39′5″ L × 7′8″ W × 7′10″ H (high-cube: 8′10″ H) |
| Door opening (approx.) | 7′8″ W × 7′6″ H (high-cube: 8′5″ H) |
| Floor area (approx.) | 300 sq ft |
| Cubic capacity (approx.) | 2,390 cu ft (high-cube: 2,700 cu ft) |
| Empty weight (approx.) | 8,200 lb (high-cube: 8,700 lb) |
| Max payload (ISO rating, approx.) | 58,000 lb |
Dimensions and weights are typical for standard ISO units; individual containers vary slightly by manufacturer and modifications.
Most 40 ft units arrive on a tilt-bed trailer and are set in place off the back of the truck. Plan on about 100–120 ft of straight, level run for the truck to back in and slide the container off, 12 ft of clear width, and 14 ft of overhead clearance with no low branches or power lines. Tell us which way you want the doors facing when you order — it is easy to set right the first time and hard to change after.
Tight sites can sometimes be handled with a crane or a large forklift. Tell us up front so we can quote the right delivery.
Level, well-drained ground is enough for storage. Compacted gravel, a concrete pad, or blocks under the four corner castings keep the doors swinging true and the floor dry. For an office or climate-controlled unit, a level pad also protects the HVAC and electrical.
Price depends on condition (one-trip or used), height, door configuration, any modifications, and delivery distance. Enter your ZIP code on any product above for a delivered quote.
More than a 20′. The truck backs in and slides the container off the bed, so plan on roughly 100 feet of straight, level access with clear overhead space. Share any access concerns when you order so the drop can be planned around them.
Level ground, compacted gravel, or concrete piers at the corners and midpoints work for most storage uses. Offices, cabins, and climate-controlled units benefit from a level pad.
Yes. We deliver 40 ft containers nationwide.
A one-trip container will give decades of service with basic care; a used wind-and-watertight unit still has many years left. Keep the roof clear of standing water and debris, touch up deep scratches to keep rust from starting, and keep the door gaskets clean.
Rules vary by city, county, and HOA. Many treat a container as an accessory structure or temporary storage; some limit placement, screening, or how long it can stay. Check with your local building department before delivery so the unit lands where it can stay.
